The St Mary of the Angels contract was awarded to Speller Metcalfe once we had passed the procurement procedure which Westminster County Council had set. Speller Metcalfe competed against 80+ building contractors through the OJEU process to get to the short-list, we then had to present our company to a board panel in which to get down to the last 6 contractors to be awarded the tender documents. After our tender bid submission was submitted along with another presentation on how we would manage the contract we were then offered the contract.
The scheme itself is to build and create a children’s learning centre in Bayswater, West London. The project includes the demolition of existing buildings and then for the construction of a 3 storey building. The contract itself is Design & Build and therefore we nominated our preferred Architects, Structural Engineers and Mechanical & Electrical team to help us manage the contract.
The buildings frame is to be built using a cast insitu concrete frame and the project is aiming to receive a BREEAM rating of Excellent. The site also has extremely tight access and egress due to being located within a dense residential area and adjacent to a primary school. Within the building the I.T suite, plant room and a multi use room. We are also going to work closely with the children from the school to develop their understanding of construction, Health & Safety, environment issues by providing assembly presentations etc.
